Aluminium Sulphate is an aluminium oxy-acid salt that is extremely soluble in water. An anhydrous form exists but it is relatively unimportant. The aqueous solution is distinctly acidic due to hydrolysis. Trade terminology often refers to aluminium sulphate as ‘alum' although correctly the alums are double salts whereas aluminium sulphate is not.
Aluminium sulphate can be represented by the generalized chemical formula Al2 (SO4 )3 . n H2O. Where n = 0, 6, 10, 16, 18, 27. In the case of ACI, n = 18. This implies that ACI produces hydrated or specifically octadecahydrate aluminium sulphate.
Among numerous other uses of aluminium sulphate, it constitutes an effective and inexpensive method of changing the pH of ordinary soil from neutral or alkaline to acidic, and a solution of it can be used for rendering concrete floors dustless.
Available Packaging:
ACI's Al2 (SO4 )3 .18H2O is available in lumps and/or ground form in 25 and 50 kg polypropylene bags.

Safety Measures:
The following precautions must be taken when dealing with aluminium sulphate:
-
Store in a cool dry place (in humid conditions the product will absorb moisture and this will eventually cause caking and loss of free flowing properties).
-
Handle with care as an acid and keep it away from incompatibles such as oxidizing agents.
-
Do not ingest or breathe dust. Wear suitable protective clothing. In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment. While handling, PVC gloves and safety goggles are recommended. Avoid contact with skin or eyes. In case of ingestion or contact with eyes or skin, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice.
-
Aluminum sulphate may corrode metals in the presence of moisture.
