Formic Acid is the simplest and strongest of the series of aliphatic monobasic acids. It can be represented chemically as H–COOH. It is a colourless liquid with a pungent, penetrating odour. It is miscible with water, alcohol, ether, or ethyl acetate. It is very soluble in acetone. It is corrosive to metals. It is a strong reducing agent, and may act both as an acid and as an aldehyde because the carboxylic group (-COOH) is bound to a hydrogen rather than an alkyl group. Synonyms for formic acid are hydrogencarboxylic acid, and methanoic acid.
Available Packaging:
ACI's formic acid is available in sturdy 35 kg plastic jars.
Storage and Handling:
Formic acid, like virtually all other acids, should be kept away from fire. Protection from direct exposure to sunlight is also recommended. Storage temperature should be ideally below 40 oC. Formic acid should not be used in conjunction with nitric acid, sulphuric acid, and ammonia. When performing titration or any other laboratory procedure or industrial application, it should be made sure that the acid is added to water and not the other way around.

Safety Measures:
The following safety measures should be taken when dealing with Formic acid:
Make use of safety glasses, rubber gloves, and protective clothing while handling formic acid.
Never breathe the acid directly, in case of accidental ingestion, consume milk and sugar in excess.
In case of contact with eyes or other body parts, wash the affected area with plenty of water or brine solution.
Formic acid is flammable; please take necessary precautions to avoid its combustion.
